Open Call 2 Winning Projects Update: Q-SAFE

Open Call 2 Winning Projects Update: Q-Safe

Q-SAFE is one of the winning projects of PQ-REACT’s second Open Call. Developed by FAVIT and DATAKORUM under Use Case 1, “Smart Energy Meters,” the project evaluates and deploys quantum-resistant digital signature schemes to secure crypto-agile firmware updates for diverse smart-meter and IoT fleets.

Work in Progress with Q-SAFE

During the first period, Q-SAFE successfully implemented and stabilised its secure firmware update workflow for constrained IoT and smart metering devices. The main achievements include on-device verification before installation, automatic rollback on verification failure, telemetry collection for verification time and end-to-end latency, CI-based build and artifact traceability, and a structured validation package with more than 120 runs. The solution was also consolidated across four ESP32-based targets, confirming the technical feasibility of the approach.

What’s next?

The next steps of Q-SAFE focus on completing the remaining integration and validation activities. In particular, the project will finalise the full HUB–DLMS–device operational path, execute the complete Digital Twin scenario package, complete airtime calibration against bench measurements, and consolidate per-run RAM and stack reporting. These actions will strengthen the remaining KPI evidence and support the final validation of the solution.
