SPQR cluster: Securing EU’s transition towards Post-Quantum Cryptography

On April 2024, PQ-REACT and QUBIP Horizon EU projects joined forces establishing the SPQR (Secure Post-Quantum eRa) cluster

The two projects, funded under the topic “HORIZON-CL3-2022-CS-01-03 – Transition towards Quantum-Resistant Cryptography” aim to contribute to the EU’s transition to Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). This collaboration will help secure the transition to the PQC era, as Post-Quantum Cryptography becomes increasingly vital with the advancement of quantum computing technology. Developing cryptographic algorithms and systems capable of withstanding attacks from quantum computers is crucial for securing our highly connected digital world. In this regard, the two projects have formed the SPQR cluster to provide expertise and expected results, assisting the transition and enhancing the EU’s strength towards post-quantum cryptography.

A few words about the cluster members

QUBIP

QUBIP is designed to contribute to the EU transition to PQC with the aim of streamlining the process and creating a replicable transition model, countering post-quantum threats as soon as possible.

PQ-REACT

PQ-REACT aims to design, develop, and validate a framework for a faster and smoother transition from classical to Post-Quantum Cryptography for a broad spectrum of contexts and usage domains. This framework will incorporate PQC migration routes, cryptographic agility techniques, and a toolkit for validating post-quantum cryptographic systems.

Cluster roadmap and objectives

The primary goal of the SPQR cluster is to exchange knowledge, fill potential gaps, and provide greater results through research. Some indicative initiatives that the projects will implement include:

  • Joint research activities exchange knowledge and information
  • Joint publications such as articles, blog posts, and newsletters
  • Feedback provision on pilot use cases
  • Co-organization of events enhancing both projects’ visibility and dissemination
  • Joint communication campaigns regarding the cluster’s aims and scope
